Meet Our Team
Shaina Velesz
Shaina joined Friendship Public Charter School Online in November 2014. She attended James Madison University for her undergraduate and graduate schooling. Before coming to Friendship Public Charter School Online, she taught students with special needs in a Fairfax County middle school. While in Fairfax, she was able to teach each subject and focus on basic skills. She was honored her first year when nominated for New Teacher of the Year. After teaching for six years, Shaina was able to work with Fairfax County to help train teachers to become successful in the classroom. In her free time, Shaina loves to run and hike with her husband, young daughters, and dog. She is excited to work with Friendship Public Charter School Online to help students of all needs be successful in school.
Ann Lyons
Ann joined K12 as a Learning Coach and tutor in 2012 and became a teacher with K12 and CAPCS Online in 2013. Prior to becoming a virtual teacher, she taught 5th grade for four years in a brick-and-mortar school. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Morehead State University in 2000. Outside of school, Ann enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She also enjoys traveling, gardening, and reading. Ann is excited to help families navigate the world of virtual learning at Friendship Public Charter School Online.
Suzanne Conway
Suzanne joined the K12 team in 2010. She brings more than 20 years’ experience in education, community service, and development. Her experience includes teaching in public and private schools in Virginia and the District of Columbia, serving as division director for the American Heart Association, and as community developer with Employment Enterprises. After raising more than a million dollars for the American Heart Association for medical research, she decided to return to her first love: teaching future leaders. Suzanne earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master’s degree in elementary education from Liberty University. Additionally, she holds certificates in education from the University of Virginia in the area of word study and is certified in elementary reading and language acquisition as well as middle school English language arts. Suzanne is honored to work with students in the District of Columbia and embraces each student in his or her journey in the acquisition of new knowledge. She loves working with students and Learning Coaches in the Online School (OLS) to help them realize success.
Brittany Goodman
Brittany is from Northern Virginia and has been teaching math for almost seven years. She earned her Master of Teaching and Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Brittany taught math at the high school level for four years in both Virginia and North Carolina before joining the CAPCS Online team and transitioning to online teaching. Her goal is to meet the needs of all students through engaging teaching styles, differentiation, and with a passion to see students succeed. Brittany now lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and two daughters.
Lauren Hamilton
Lauren has been working in education for over 15 years. She graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts in communications and later, she completed her Master of Arts in special education at the University of Virginia. Lauren taught elementary and middle school children within Fairfax County, Virginia for 12 years before transitioning to a role as a collaborative mentor for teachers. Lauren was born and raised in northern Virginia. Lauren works part-time for Friendship Public Charter School Online and enjoys the balance of teaching Friendship students and spending time with her three young children.
